Call for Demonstrations

IEEE CCNC 2008 solicits demonstrations of the latest in bleeding edge technology in consumer communications and networking. We invite researchers and developers from academic, industrial, and government laboratories to present their novel ideas, including works in progress and results that do not warrant a full technical paper. CCNC also welcomes demonstrations of emerging and innovative technologies that have potential commercial application from nascent and incubating companies. Technology demonstrations, however, must be prototypes and/or research ideas - they cannot consist of actual commercial products.

CCNC will feature a special session that will showcase technology demonstrations. A special Venture Advisory Committee, which will include corporate venture managers and venture industry representatives, will help judge the demonstrations. A Best Demonstration Award will be given to the top demonstration, as determined by the Venture Advisory Committee and the Demonstration Committee.

The CCNC demonstration session will provide an exciting forum for researchers, developers, and entrepreneurs to present and discuss new applications and techniques, research demonstrations, recent research/implementation results, upcoming research challenges, practical implementations, commercial developments, future directions, and novel. We envision the demonstration session as a means to exhibit innovations that have the potential to change the future landscape of consumer communications and networking! At the Las Vegas Convention Center you can see glossy product demos inadequately explained by marketing types in suits. At CCNC we want to see raw technology, explained by people who are actually creating it and care about the technology itself!

Submissions should be in the form of a proposal describing the main contributions of the demonstration and the merits of the proposed ideas. Be as specific as possible in describing what you will show; authors should indicate if their demonstration presentation is a prototype or a poster. A technology prototype can range from a mockup using computers (instead of actual consumer devices) to a full-fledged collection of networked consumer devices. A poster is an approximately 30" by 40" rectangular board on which you can place text and figures describing your research. Of course, many variations are possible. Proposals that demonstrate actual prototypes should include space, power and networking requirements. A Demonstration Committee, headed by the demonstration chair, will evaluate proposals. Proposals will be evaluated mainly based on their potential to stimulate interesting discussions, exchange of ideas, and promote collaborations.

• POSTERS: A poster is an approximately 30" by 40" rectangular board on which you can place text and figures describing your research. You may choose to print out several sheets of papers, or a single large poster paper (these can be printed, for example, from Powerpoint files through document companies). A poster should provide a concise summary of your work, and diagrams or other graphics are strongly encouraged.

Demonstration Presentations

Accepted demonstrations will be presented during a special demonstration session during the conference. You will be expected to stand next to your exhibit and discuss your work with other conference attendees. You may also wish to provide additional handouts that explain your work in more detail, indicate where to find more information, etc.
Please consult the demonstration chair if you are uncertain whether your demonstration falls within the scope of the conference or if you require additional information.

Submission Process

Demonstration proposals should be one or two pages in length. Proposals should include authors' names and affiliations and be submittted through EDAS.   Only electronic submissions will be accepted.
