Special Session on Beyond GPS - Where
                     Navigation meets Consumer

In the last few years a relevant effort has been spent in both industry and academia research in the design and development of integrated positioning, navigation and communication systems. The knowledge of the users’ position will become essential for the next generation of wireless and wired architectures and in the implementation of location based applications and services.

Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) as GPS, Glonass, the coming European Galileo and the Chinese Compass, represent the most accurate source of position information; their actual exploitation in the consumer market, in tight integrated navigation/communication systems, still represents a challenging task.

The aim of this special session is to foster interactions among researchers from industry and academia on leading edge location aware solutions in consumer communication systems and services. The focus will be on emerging technologies (e.g.: vehicular networks), which will represent the core infrastructures in the years to come for mass-market and safety applications, based on hybrid navigation and communication devices. Furthermore, the focus will be also on the integration scenarios and on the critical aspects that have to be overcome in the design process, such as the cross-interference and interoperability between navigation and communications devices.

Authors are invited to submit papers presenting new research related to the integration of navigation and communication systems, with specific focus on the integration between GNSS and communication devices and infrastructures. Areas of interest include, but are not limited to:

●Location aware communication systems
●GPS and location aware solutions for portable devices
●Emerging applications for location based vehicular networks
●Communications aided navigation in harsh environment and urban canyons
●Coexistence and mutual-interference between communication and navigation signals
●Nav-Com hybrid systems for commercial and rescue operations
●Traffic management, vehicle control, and safety related applications for Intelligent
  Transportation System
●Best practices of integrated GPS in mobile phones
●Consumer applications based on accurate user’s position (e.g.: leisure and recreational
   uses)

Submission Instructions

Authors are invited to submit regular technical papers or position papers. The position papers should present novel technologies at an early stage of development or share future vision. All submissions should describe original, previously unpublished research, not currently under review by another conference or journal. Manuscripts should not exceed five (5) pages in double-column IEEE format. Please submit the paper through EDAS.  Formatting details can be found under Author Information on the CCNC web site.
