One of the responsibilities of GIMS is to select sites for our future ICC and Globecom conferences. Site selection is done with four basic principals in mind:
* Support and expand ComSoc's membership
* Promote high quality technical interactions
* Enhance collaboration and support from industrial partners
* Provide maximum financial support for ComSoc's activities while minimizing risk
Most often, IEEE Sections from around the world will make the initial inquiry to host a conference and start the bid process. Additionally, GIMS will gather data to determine which potential sites would serve our IEEE and ComSoc members best and will make invitations to bid. In either case, each bid team will be guided through the following Site Selection Process:
* Establish the bid team with GIMS Site Selection Chair Robert S. Fish at rob.fish@ieee.org
* Refer to the Guidelines for ICC/Globecom Bid Teams
* Submit the GIMS Site Selection Criteria and Proposal Information questionnaire
(reference the space requirements for ICC and Globecom)
* Sign an intial ComSoc Meetings & Conference Board Site Selection MOU
* Make first bid presentation at a GIMS meeting (meetings held twice each year at ICC
and Globecom conferences).
* Bid presentations should cover details from the questionnaire (above) as well as a top-level
budget view and organizational chart.
* Respond to questions/concerns from GIMS members
* Make second bid presentation (if necessary)
* Respond to questions/concerns from GIMS members (if necessary)
* GIMS evaluates all bids and awards the site
