HOW TO ORGANIZE FOR DLT:
Any ComSoc chapter(s) in NAR (R1 -R7) is (are) interested in having a joint DLT, the first step is to contact the DLT Coordinator Cai, Yigang at ycai@alcatel-lucent.com. To have a DLT, the following items should be made:
-
Provide the Coordinator with your chapter interest in participating in a lecture tour this year.
-
Send the Coordinator your timing preference (Month/day of week) and topic/speaker preference, if any. Note: your flexibility in dates/times/choice of lecturer as possible to ensure an appropriate match.
-
Once your responses received, the Coordinator will collate and try to match your requests with preferences have been received from various interested lecturers.
-
Remember that a DLT will be approved only if at least 3 (typically 4 or 5) chapters that are geographically "close" decide to participate. Therefore, you are encouraged to contact your colleagues in chapters that are close to you to see if they are interested.
-
The Coordinator will also be contacting all North America ComSoc chapter chairs to see potential interest.
-
The attempt is to arrange regional DLT. However, another option is the possibility of combining a DLT with some other travel (e.g. Conference) that a distinguished lecturer undertakes. For instance, let's say, lecturer A resides in Europe and is visiting GLOBECOM conference in NA city. If the lecturer is interested in visiting 1 or 2 chapters nearby after or before the conference, then ComSoc will be happy to step in and pay for equivalent of expenses for roundtrip between city where GLOECOM is held and the location chapters. With this possibility, there would not be too much strain on the lecturer beyond a one or two day extension of conference trip. If you are interested in participating in this, let me know your interest. Also, the best way to move forward on this is to contact the distinguished lecturers if you have a particular interest to find out which conferences they plan to attend that are close to your chapter.
GENERAL ITEMS:
-
ComSoc will be responsible for providing cost of airfare/appropriate transit costs for the lecturer. From the time the lecturer arrives at the host city airport until the lecturer departs from the city, the local chapter would be responsible for all costs (lodging, food, airport transfers). If your local chapter requires financial assistance for part of these, you may contact Gabe Jakobson, the NA Regional Director, for some of the funds.
