Mark Karol is a Senior Scientist with Telcordia Technologies. Previously, from 2000 until 2008, he was a Research Scientist with Avaya. From 1985 until 2000, he was a member of the Research Communications Sciences Division at Bell Laboratories.

Mark has held many leadership positions in technical committee, publications and conference activities of the IEEE. He also served two years on the IEEE Board of Directors. He was the General Chair of the 2002 IEEE International Conference on Communications (ICC2002), and General Chair of IEEE INFOCOM'94. He also served as the ComSoc CIO, ComSoc Director of Magazines, and ComSoc VP - Conferences.

A Fellow of the IEEE, Mark received the IEEE Communication Society's Donald W. McLellan Meritorious Service Award in 2005. He has over 100 technical publications and has been granted 32 U.S. patents.

He received a B.S. in mathematics and a B.S.E.E. from Case Western Reserve University, and a Ph.D. in electrical engineering and computer science from Princeton University.
